The Magnetic Trail | Pistes magnétiques - In All the Wrong Places

The Magnetic Trail | Pistes magnétiques is a video work presented in the context of In All the Wrong Places curated by Sylvie Fortin at the Ottawa Art Gallery in 1999. This project took place over a period of 6 months in diverse specific sites located in the public domain. It included the works of twelve artists: Marion Bordier, Mohamed El Baz, Charles Goldman, Diane Gougeon, Germaine Koh, Aernouk Mik, Marlène Negro, Nadine Norman, Mitch Robertson, Susan Schuppli and Michael Shaowanasai.

Excerpt from the Ottawa Art Gallery Press Release, 10 October 1999:

The Magnetic Trail is a deterritorialized video which consists in an installation (24 hours a day, 245 Bank Street), and a video infiltration in selected Ottawa neighbourhoods. Complementary, the two components position the viewer at the center of the work; the viewer both constitutes the work and is constituted at the meeting of its two elements. The Magnetic Trail operates a sensible deployment which bears witness to the artist’s reflection on the video image’s immateriality and conditions of emergence, the materiality of the body, and the transfers between images and space.”
